A Diavel V4 gets cleaned. Wheels, paint, the underside of the tail, the places nobody sees — the routine runs over every surface on the motorcycle and then stops, because surfaces are all it can reach. The one component collecting more dirt than any other is sealed inside the airbox, and on a standard machine it is not on the cleaning list at all. A paper panel is not cleaned. It is thrown away, or rather more often simply left where it is.
Key Features
- Washable dry nonwoven, cleaned with compressed air and refitted rather than replaced
- Filtration grade of 14 microns, where the standard woven element for this airbox is rated at 80
- Rated flow of 1,800 litres per square metre per second against 5,050 for that element — the cost of the finer grade
- Holds its load through the depth of the fibre mat instead of on a woven surface
- About twice the filtering area of a typical performance element, inside the unaltered series airbox
- Direct replacement for the original panel, no remap required, two years of warranty from the date of purchase
The part with no entry on the list
Fitting a washable element changes the maintenance itself, not only the specification. The item acquires a serviceable condition and a way to restore it, so it joins the routine instead of hiding from it: out of the housing, air line, back in. It also becomes something that gets looked at. Anyone who cleans a motorcycle this thoroughly tends to find it odd, once it is pointed out, that the dirtiest single part on it was the only one never touched between services — and that its condition was assumed rather than seen.
What the grade costs
Retention is bought with flow, and the figures say by how much: 1,800 litres per square metre per second here, 5,050 for the woven alternative in the same housing. That reserve is given back on purpose, which is why the honest sentence has to be said out loud as well. A drop-in element does not make a standard Diavel V4 faster, and a fine one gives up intake headroom rather than adding any. The gain is what never reaches the throttle bodies, accumulated over a great many kilometres, on a bike whose intake tract would otherwise go years without being opened.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air is applied to the clean face and worked outward, pushing the dust back the way it came. If the deposit is greasy rather than dry, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will release it, then rinse thoroughly. Drying happens in moving air at room temperature only, because heat of any kind ruins the medium, and the PM160P14 goes back into the housing dry, with nothing sprayed or wiped onto it. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Ducati Diavel V4 of 2023 to 2026. Five other machines carry the same code: the Panigale V4R, the Panigale V4 /S/SP, the V4S Corse, the V4S Speciale and the XDiavel V4 — six entries under one part number. Check the code, then the build year.
