Two numbers on this element point in opposite directions. It filters at 85 microns; the standard woven panel for the same airbox filters at 80, so this is the more open weave of the pair. Then the measured comparison: 95.22 per cent of 100-micron particles held by the F1-85, against 93.13 per cent by the standard weave. Both figures come from the manufacturer, neither cancels the other, and understanding why they can both be true is most of what there is to know about PM210S F1-85.
Key Features
- Woven polyester run dry, with no oil when new and none at any service
- An 85 µm weave with a rated flow of 15,000 l/m²/sec, the fastest medium Sprint Filter lists
- 95.22 % of 100-micron particles held in the manufacturer comparison, where four-layer oiled cotton reached 76.42 %
- Seats in the standard airbox with nothing cut and no remapping required
- About double the filtering cloth of a conventional performance element
- Washable and reusable, warranted for two years from the date of purchase
Two figures, two different questions
The 85 and the 80 are descriptions of cloth. The two percentages are results from one comparison at a single particle size, 100 microns, which sits well above both weaves, so neither is stretched by it and both hold nearly everything that was thrown at them. That is exactly why the margin between them comes out at two percentage points rather than twenty. Where the wider rating would show is further down the size range, on material small enough for the difference between 80 and 85 to matter, and neither published number tells you anything about that.
What it was actually drawn for
The flow rating. 15,000 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard weave in the same box is close to three times the throughput, and delivering it is the reason the part exists. It is also listed at more than double the standard panel for the same housing, a difference that only returns something if the rest of the machine can use the air. Worth adding, since the name invites the assumption: Rally here is an equipment package, not a use case, and it makes no argument on its own for a racing medium. Nor does any of this alter the flat truth behind all three media — an element slotted into an untouched airbox does not make a standard 1200 noticeably stronger.
Care and cleaning
Air first: the nozzle against the clean face, working outwards, sends the trapped load back out through the side it came in by. A greasy haze that resists air comes off in hand-warm water with a little mild detergent, and the rinsing continues until the water runs clear of it. Then dry it slowly in open air, because polyester and heat do not get on: no hot-air gun, no radiator, nothing with a flame near it. It is refitted dry, with nothing applied, and the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Indian FTR 1200 Rally, 2020 to 2026, one element per machine. Two further machines in the family take the same racing code, and the earliest of the three listings starts in 2019. The full list is under the Fitment tab.
