Not everything an air filter has to deal with arrives from the road. Hold a used element up to a light and the deposits usually sort themselves into two kinds: dry dust, which is what the cloth was drawn to stop, and a greasy film, which did not come in off the tarmac at all. The second sort is the reason the care instructions for this element mention detergent as well as compressed air — and the reason a CFMOTO SS 675 used for short journeys can show a different-looking panel from one that spends its life covering distance.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester at 80 microns, rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Serviced with compressed air, and washed with mild detergent when needed
- Free of oil throughout, so a film on the cloth is information rather than product
- About double the filter area of the performance elements it sits against
- Fits the standard SS 675 airbox in the original outline; no cutting, no remap
- Reusable for the working life of the machine, covered two years from purchase
Reading what is on the cloth
A dry element is legible in a way a disposable one never gets the chance to be, because it is looked at repeatedly rather than once on the day it is replaced. Pale, even dust across the whole face is ordinary road use. A heavier deposit after a short season says the air was worse than expected. A greasy sheen is a different signal altogether, and it is worth noticing rather than simply washing off, because it says something about the engine and not about the roads. None of this requires equipment. It requires the panel to be dry, unoiled and in front of you.
Short journeys are their own case
An engine used in short bursts spends a large share of its running time coming up to temperature and never quite finishing, and that pattern leaves more behind than the same distance covered in one run. It is the least glamorous way to use a motorcycle and one of the most common. The practical consequence here is small: open the box a little sooner than the schedule suggests, look at the panel, and let what you see set the next interval. What none of it changes is the output. A drop-in element does not make a standard SS 675 noticeably stronger — it keeps the intake restriction from drifting upward for good.
Care and cleaning
Start with compressed air applied to the clean side and worked outward, which handles dry dust completely. Where a film has formed, lukewarm water and a trace of mild detergent will release it; rinse until the water comes away clear. After that the SM290S dries in moving air at room temperature, never near a heater or an open flame, and it returns to the airbox dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet for the element is in the Downloads tab on this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the CFMOTO SS 675 of 2025 and 2026, one element per machine. Three CFMOTO 675 models share this housing and this number; the SS 450 is a separate airbox with a separate code. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
