DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 06310-15 is a shock absorber spring rated at 62 N/mm, 255 mm long with a 61 mm inner diameter. Rear spring rate sets ride height, static sag and how much of the damper's stroke is actually usable.

Key Features

  • Inner diameter 61 mm
  • Measured spring rate 62 N/mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Free length 255 mm
  • Öhlins part number 06310-15
  • 140 mm of usable stroke
  • Straight-wound, constant rate

How Öhlins Makes Them

Every unit is dyno-tested against the curve held for its part number, not sampled from a batch. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. Seals are specified for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost.

The Numbers That Matter

Öhlins holds the free length at 255 mm and the inner diameter at 61 mm across this rate range, so moving up or down a rate changes nothing about the installation.

What This Rate Does

Support under braking improves; small-bump comfort gives a little back. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. If the suspension bottoms out or the geometry collapses under load, this is the direction to go. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

How a Rear Spring Works

Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong. Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does. A shock absorber spring carries the whole rear of the machine through a linkage that multiplies its rate several times over — which is why the number on the spring looks so much larger than a fork rate.

Applications

Ask us with the machine and rider weight and we will tell you which rate in this size to take. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in.

Installation

A spring that is the correct length still needs the preload spacer checked, since installed length is what sets sag. Note the original oil level before draining — it is a useful reference even when Öhlins specifies its own. Preload spacers usually need shortening or lengthening so the installed length stays correct.

Road Approval

Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins components deliver what they promise once they are fitted and set up properly. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do exactly that in house — installation, service and setup. Simply ask if you would like us to take care of it.
