DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 60015-91 is a shock absorber spring rated at 240 N/mm, 85 mm long with a 57 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • 32 mm of usable stroke
  • Measured spring rate 240 N/mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Öhlins part number 60015-91
  • Inner diameter 57 mm
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • Free length 85 mm

Why the Rate Holds

Seals are specified for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate.

Dimensions

Free length 85 mm, inner diameter 57 mm, rate 240 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

What This Rate Does

Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. This end of the range suits heavier riders, two-up use, or a machine ridden hard enough that fork dive becomes the limit. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.

How a Rear Spring Works

Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong. On a linkage-equipped machine the wheel moves several millimetres for every millimetre the damper moves, and the spring rate has to account for that ratio.

Applications

Öhlins builds springs to dimensions rather than to model lists, so the question is always the same: does the diameter fit, does the length fit, and is the rate right for the rider? Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits.

Installation

Öhlins states the oil and the air-gap for this application — both are part of the setting, not a detail. Note the original oil level before draining — it is a useful reference even when Öhlins specifies its own. Öhlins part numbers are stamped on the packaging rather than the spring, so keep the label with the setup notes.

Road Approval

Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
