Key Features

  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • 82 mm of usable stroke
  • Measured spring rate 140 N/mm
  • Free length 180 mm
  • Inner diameter 57 mm
  • Öhlins part number 01095-54

How Öhlins Makes Them

Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get. Rates are offered in defined steps, so a change can be made in one direction at a time.

The Numbers That Matter

At 180 mm free length and 57 mm inner diameter, this spring is dimensionally interchangeable with anything of the same size — the rate is what makes it a different part.

Where This Rate Belongs

This end of the range suits heavier riders, two-up use, or a machine ridden hard enough that fork dive becomes the limit. Heavier riders, two-up use and track days all push the choice towards this end. A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

Rate and the Linkage

The rear spring carries the rider, the pillion and the luggage; the front carries only part of it. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering. Adding a pillion or luggage changes the rear load enough that the standard rate stops working properly.

Applications

The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload. A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table. If you are replacing a sagged original, measure its free length first — a tired spring often measures several millimetres short.

What Fitting Involves

Fork oil should be replaced at the same time — it is already out of the leg. Any suspension workshop can fit these; the fork does not need to leave the bike for long. Öhlins part numbers are stamped on the packaging rather than the spring, so keep the label with the setup notes.

Road Approval

Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins components deliver what they promise once they are fitted and set up properly. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do exactly that in house — installation, service and setup. Simply ask if you would like us to take care of it.
