DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 61111-36 is a shock absorber spring rated at 105 N/mm, 200 mm long with a 57 mm inner diameter. Rear spring rate sets ride height, static sag and how much of the damper's stroke is actually usable.

Key Features

  • Free length 200 mm
  • Inner diameter 57 mm
  • Measured spring rate 105 N/mm
  • Öhlins part number 61111-36

How Öhlins Makes Them

Rates are offered in defined steps, so a change can be made in one direction at a time. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly.

Size and Rate

Dimensionally this is a 57 mm × 200 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 105 N/mm.

Choosing 105 N/mm

Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. Support under braking improves; small-bump comfort gives a little back. A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. Road surfaces are the hardest test of a spring rate, because the fork has to cope with both a smooth stretch and a broken one.

Rate and the Linkage

Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.

Applications

If you are replacing a sagged original, measure its free length first — a tired spring often measures several millimetres short. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork.

What Fitting Involves

Check the free length against the old springs before fitting — a sagged original often measures short. Any suspension workshop can fit these; the fork does not need to leave the bike for long. Spring preload spacers may need adjusting to keep the installed length correct.

Road Approval

Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.

Fitting and Setup Service

This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
