What It Is
Dimensionally this is 12 mm, 38 mm, 0.25 mm, which is how it is told apart from the rest of the range. Revalving means changing the stack, not the piston — that is why shims are sold singly. A coned or marked shim is finished — it no longer seals against its neighbour. A shim is a thin, ground steel washer, and the stack of them is what generates damping.
Why the Original
Rebuilding to specification only works if the parts are to specification — that starts here. Öhlins manufactures service parts on the same lines as production parts — there is no second quality. We can check the number against the Öhlins exploded view before you order — just ask. Öhlins numbers do not follow a logic you can guess — always read them from the documentation.
Getting the Number Right
Öhlins identifies this position by the number 00525-38 in the exploded view for the unit it belongs to. inner diameter 12 mm, outer diameter 38 mm, thickness 0.25 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. A stack combines several diameters so the curve changes progressively rather than in steps. Revalving means changing the stack, not the piston — that is why shims are sold singly.
Fitting and Setup Service
We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so you do not have to source the tools and the nitrogen: send us the damper and we rebuild it with the correct parts and the correct setting.
