Where It Sits
Öhlins gives it as 40.87 mm, 3.53 mm, FKM 70; nothing about that is approximate. Öhlins uses seals with a spring-loaded lip so they follow the shaft as it wears. The groove does half the work: the ring only seals if the groove is clean and undamaged. An oil seal that has hardened lets the shaft pass oil past it, and the damping fades long before the leak becomes visible.

How to Be Sure It Fits
If the unit is already open, compare the dimensions below with the part in your hand before ordering 00338-47. Check inner diameter 40.87 mm, cross section 3.53 mm, material FKM 70 against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. Öhlins recommends replacing seals whenever the unit is opened, not only when it leaks. O-ring sizes are given as inner diameter and cross-section, and both have to match — a close size is not a match.

A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
