DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 08433-60 is a pair of fork springs rated at 6.0 N/mm, 445 mm long with a 43.5 mm inner diameter. Rate decides where in the stroke the fork sits; damping only decides how fast it gets there.

Key Features

  • Free length 445 mm
  • Supplied as a pair
  • Inner diameter 43.5 mm
  • Measured spring rate 6.0 N/mm
  • Öhlins part number 08433-60

How Öhlins Makes Them

Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Service parts stay available for years after a part number leaves the current price list. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976.

The Numbers That Matter

Dimensionally this is a 43.5 mm × 445 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 6.0 N/mm.

What This Rate Does

On a machine ridden solo and mostly on the road, softer is often the honest choice. A softer rate keeps the tyre loaded on a poor surface, which is worth more than outright support on most roads. Lighter riders usually end up a step or two below the factory rate once sag is measured properly. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.

Applications

Nothing about the installation changes across a rate range: the mounting, the length and the bore stay the same. A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in. Rate is the variable that depends on the rider, not on the machine. Two people on the same bike may well want two different numbers.

Installation

If the fork has not been serviced recently, bushes and seals are worth replacing while it is apart. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do. Both legs are done together, and both take the same rate.

Road Approval

Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
