What It Is
21634-01 is the 43 mm, 39.5 mm, 531 mm version — Öhlins lists each size separately. Fork parts are specific to the fork, not to the motorcycle it happens to be fitted to. Bushings in the fork carry the side load; play there shows up as knocking under braking. Outer tubes hold the bushings and the seal head, so their bore finish matters as much as the inner tube's outside.
Why the Original
Öhlins supports its suspension with individual service parts, which is why a fifteen-year-old damper can still be rebuilt to specification. This is an original Öhlins part, not an aftermarket equivalent — the tolerances are the ones the unit was assembled to. Where a number has been superseded, Öhlins states the replacement — we pass that on. The Öhlins exploded view names the number for each position; we can look it up if you do not have it.
Getting the Number Right
Part number 21634-01 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. The published dimensions are dimension a 43 mm, dimension b 39.5 mm, dimension c 531 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Öhlins publishes tube diameters by fork model, and they are not interchangeable across the range. Inner tubes carry a low-friction coating; once it is through, the seals wear quickly.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
