Developed with lessons drawn from the British Superbike Championship and the Isle of Man TT, the K-Tech DDS Closed Cartridge Kit transforms the standard fork on the Kawasaki ZX-6R (2009–2019) into a genuinely race-bred suspension assembly. The Direct Damping System architecture, pressurised cartridge design and precision-machined internals represent a level of engineering refinement that is immediately felt through the first corner.
Key Features
- 30-way independently adjustable compression and rebound damping for tailored setup across road and track conditions
- Patented DDS (Direct Damping System) technology actively prevents cavitation, ensuring consistent, fade-free damping performance
- Asymmetric damping circuits work independently of one another, sharpening response and reducing lag between rider input and fork reaction
- 20 mm piston promotes optimised oil flow through the 31 mm control valves for smooth, progressive damping throughout the stroke
- 8 mm piston rod minimises system offset and contributes to more linear, predictable fork behaviour
- 18 mm preload adjustment range allows precise spring-rate fine-tuning without removing the forks
- Increased stroke over the standard cartridge, improving suspension travel and expanding the setup window
Design, Finish and Heritage
K-Tech's closed cartridge units carry a design philosophy refined over years of competition at the highest levels of British and international road racing. Every component reflects that heritage: the pressurised cartridge body is manufactured to exacting tolerances, the anodised finish is built to withstand workshop abuse and track vibration alike, and the assembly sits neatly within the original ZX-6R fork legs without modification to the chassis. This is not an aftermarket approximation of race suspension — it is the same category of hardware used by professional teams, adapted and validated for the specific fork geometry of the 2009–2019 ZX-6R.
Performance on Road and Track
The 36-260 spring series supplied with the kit is matched to the ZX-6R's fork dimensions, and the recommended baseline settings — 16 compression clicks, 18 rebound clicks, 10 mm preload — give an immediately usable starting point whether the bike is heading for a trackday or a long-distance road session. From that baseline, the 30-way click range is wide enough to cover a fast lightweight rider on a smooth circuit and a heavier rider on a bumpy A-road with room to spare. The independent damping circuits mean compression and rebound can be dialled without the adjustments interfering with one another, making setup methodical rather than iterative guesswork.
Cavitation — the formation of vapour bubbles in fork oil under high-speed damping loads — is the primary cause of inconsistent fork feel during hard braking and mid-corner compressions. K-Tech's patented pressurised system eliminates the conditions that allow cavitation to develop, so the fork delivers the same response on lap one as it does on lap thirty.
Fitment and Compatibility
This closed cartridge kit is designed as a direct replacement for the standard cartridge in the Kawasaki ZX-6R fork. No chassis modification is required. Confirmed fitment:
