A Bike That Gets Improved

Nobody leaves an MT-07 standard for long. Fork cartridges, a rear shock, an exhaust and a front brake upgrade are close to a standard list, and each of them changes something the rider notices. The brake is where the offset clamp geometry usually comes from.

Establishing the Geometry

Look at the clamp half currently on the motorcycle. Offset means one bolt sits ahead of the other relative to the bar axis. It is not reliably deducible from the master cylinder's brand, because manufacturers change the spacing between generations.

The 270 Degree Crank

Yamaha's uneven firing order gives the twin a pulse rather than a hum, and part of that pulse arrives at the handlebar. It is a characteristic riders enjoy and a load that fasteners feel, which favours a one-piece housing with a bolted clamp.

Everyday Duty

These motorcycles do more ordinary mileage than almost anything else in the range. The indicator control on a commuter may see a hundred operations before lunch, and it is the first to lose its definition.

Sealed Elements

Contacts sealed inside a housing with no moulded seam. On a naked bike ridden year-round and frequently parked outside, that is the specification that matters more than any figure about the alloy.

A Narrower Fit

The dedicated offset drilling sits closer to the master cylinder than a universal plate would. On a bar carrying a phone mount and a lever guard, the extra space is worth having.

Black Anodised

One finish, through the surface. It dulls with age rather than chipping, which on a bike used daily and occasionally dropped is the more useful property.
