DescriptionThe whole story▼
The air-cooled Bonneville is the bike that brought Triumph back, and the 2008–2015 machines are the last of that line before water cooling arrived. Owners keep them for what they are, and the charcoal canister is one of the few modern intrusions on an otherwise simple motorcycle.
Key Features
- For the Triumph Bonneville, 2008–2015
- Canister, purge valve and vapour lines all come off
- The dash stays clean afterwards
- Pushes onto the connector already on the bike
- Clears space beside an air-cooled parallel twin
- Everything goes back if you want it to
An Engine You Can See Around
The air-cooled 865 cc twin has no radiator, no water pump and no plumbing beyond fuel and oil — which is exactly why the vapour hoses and their black plastic canister stand out on this bike in a way they would not on a faired machine. Removing them restores the uncluttered look these motorcycles were designed around.
Fake Carburettors, Real Injection
Triumph shaped the throttle bodies on these bikes to look like Amal carburettors, because that was the point of the whole exercise. It worked well enough that people argue about it. What the disguise does not cover is the vapour plumbing behind the engine — the one component on the bike that looks like what it is.
The End of the Line
2015 was the last year before water cooling. Everything after it is a different motorcycle wearing the same name, which makes the 865 machines a defined group rather than a stage in a model run — and one whose owners chose it deliberately.
Fitment
- Triumph Bonneville (2008–2015)
Road Approval
None. The evaporative emissions system is part of the motorcycle's type approval. Closed-circuit and race use only.
