DescriptionThe whole story▼
BMW built the HP4 in small numbers and fitted it with semi-active damping at a time when almost nothing else had it. Owners tend to treat the bike accordingly, which makes every component decision a question of whether it improves the machine without cheapening it. The FXBL-08 is a fair answer: a milled aluminium brake lever with 35 reach positions, a folding blade and a German ABE, finished in black so it reads as equipment rather than decoration.
Key Features
- Thirty-five graduated reach settings
- Folding design, protects the master cylinder in a tip-over
- Defined break point kept inside the two-finger area
- Phosphated pivot, machined to a press fit
- Black anodised, no branding beyond the milled Gilles mark
- Road legal under ABE No. KBA 91203
Why Owners Change the Lever
The HP4 shares its front brake with the S1000RR of the period, and it inherits the same limitation: a lever with no meaningful reach adjustment. On a bike whose whole character is about controlling what the chassis does, that is the one control left out of the conversation. Setting the blade to your own hand changes how early you can start trailing the brake, and it does so without touching the hydraulics or voiding anything.
Keeping a Rare Bike Right
Two practical points matter on a low-production model. First, the lever bolts to the original master cylinder, so nothing is drilled, cut or permanently altered and the factory part can go back on in minutes. Second, the folding joint means a garage tip-over costs you an inspection rather than a new master cylinder assembly, which on this bike is neither cheap nor quick to source.
Fitment and Compatibility
Fits the BMW HP4, type code K10, model years 2012 to 2015. The HP4 Race of 2017 is a different machine altogether and is not covered. Riders running an S1000RR or S1000R will find the same part number listed for their bikes under their own fitment entry.
Road Approval
Approved for German roads under ABE No. KBA 91203. Keep the documentation with the vehicle papers. The break point in the blade is part of the approval and must be left intact.
Scope of Delivery
A single black brake lever, supplied without further parts. On the HP4 the original pivot hardware is reused, so nothing from the factory assembly is discarded and the swap can be undone at any time. Download the ABE from this page and store the printout with the vehicle documents.
