DescriptionThe whole story▼
After more than a decade of development in professional motorcycle racing, Extreme Components has engineered the GP EVO Carbon Brake Lever Guard to meet the uncompromising safety demands of Moto3, Moto2 and open-class competition. At just 35 g, this monolithic twill-weave carbon guard is among the lightest on the market — and its wind-tunnel-validated aerodynamic profile means it actively contributes to stability rather than simply sitting on the handlebar.
Key Features
- Monolithic carbon fibre construction — no aluminium cap, no separate metal components, delivering exceptional rigidity with a claimed weight of only 35 g
- Wind-tunnel-developed front spoiler geometry improves airflow around the throttle grip area, reducing turbulence at full throttle on long straights
- Safety-first inner profile — the interior face is completely free of sharp edges, allowing the rider's hand to release instantly and cleanly in a crash
- Revised angle design accommodates both short and long brake levers, while the proven V-shape form enables rapid handlebar release in emergency situations
- Outer surface features a partially flattened profile engineered for maximum resistance to contact and impact
- Universal fitment via five included aluminium adapters covering handlebar inner diameters from Ø14 mm to Ø19 mm, plus a black Teflon spacer for fine-tuning the guard's distance from the grip
Engineering & Construction
The GP EVO represents a fundamental rethink of how a brake lever guard should be built. Rather than wrapping a carbon shell around a metal frame, Extreme Components mould the guard entirely from high-grade twill-weave carbon fibre in a single, monolithic piece. The result is a component with no weak adhesive joints or mismatched materials — just pure, directional carbon that handles impact loading in the same way a racing chassis would.
The aerodynamic front spoiler is not a styling detail. The geometry was iterated and validated in a wind tunnel specifically to channel air cleanly past the brake lever assembly without generating the turbulent pockets that degrade high-speed stability. At race speeds on a long straight, the cumulative effect is measurable.
Safety Design in Detail
Extreme Components approached the GP EVO's safety architecture from both ends of a crash scenario. The inner face — the side closest to the rider's hand — is entirely smooth and edge-free. If a collision forces the hand towards the guard, there is nothing to snag a glove or restrict withdrawal. The outer face, which is the first surface to make contact with another bike, barrier or track furniture, is shaped with a partially flat profile to spread load and resist deformation. Together, these design choices address the two most common mechanisms by which a lever guard can make a crash worse rather than better.
Fitment & Compatibility
The GP EVO Brake Lever Guard is designed for track use only. Fitment is universal across a wide range of race and track-day machines thanks to the five aluminium adapters supplied, covering all handlebar inner diameters between Ø14 mm and Ø19 mm.
