DescriptionThe whole story▼

Endurance races for club riders, lasting several hours with two or three riders sharing one bike, suit a middleweight superbike such as the Panigale 959. They also expose it to more handling in the pit lane than any sprint race: rider changes, refuelling, tyre swaps and several helpers moving around it in a hurry. A bike that tips over in the pit box loses time and can pick up damage it never got on the track. Accossato lists its PP079 rear axle sliders for the Panigale 959 from 2017 to 2019 and for the 959 Corse of 2018 and 2019.

Key Features

  • Rear axle sliders for the Ducati Panigale 959, 2017 to 2019
  • Also listed by Accossato for the 959 Corse, 2018 to 2019
  • Accossato PP079, one protector for each side of the rear
  • Aluminium and plastic in black
  • Spacers, screws and all mounting parts included, according to Accossato
  • Pairs with the PF033 front axle sliders
  • No German ABE on record; supplied for competition

Construction and Material Quality

The PP079 is a pair of black protectors, one for each side at the rear of the bike, built from aluminium and plastic. Accossato, which today works from Villastellone near Turin, packs the spacers, screws and other mounting parts in the kit. At the back of a Panigale 959, the sliders have the job of meeting the ground ahead of the swingarm and the rear axle area in a fall or slide, which can lessen the damage there. They wear away in the process, so a slider with a deep scar should be renewed before the next event.

Pit Stops in a Club Endurance Race

In an endurance race the pit box is where time is won or lost, and it is also where the Panigale 959 is most exposed to clumsy hands. Rehearse the stop before the race: who holds the bike when it comes in, who handles the stands, who refuels and who helps the next rider on. The incoming rider should stop exactly on the marked spot, in neutral, with the engine off if the rules require it. The rider change is the delicate moment. One person steadies the bike from the side while the outgoing rider climbs off and the fresh one climbs on, and nobody lets go until the new rider has both feet down and a firm grip. Keep the floor around the box clear of tools, cans and cables. The organiser's regulations decide how many helpers may work on the bike, how refuelling is carried out and what safety equipment must be at hand, so read them in advance. After the flag, go over the bike calmly, sliders included, and replace whatever took a knock.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the Panigale 959, Accossato lists the PP079 from 2017 to 2019 on the standard bike and from 2018 to 2019 on the 959 Corse, and we have linked it on that basis. A 2016 Panigale 959 does not appear in the list, so please ask us before ordering for one of the first-year bikes. At the front, the PF033 sliders complete the protection. The PP079 is not listed for any other model in our shop.

Road Approval

The PP079 comes to us without an ABE or a test mark, so it is listed in our shop for racing and competition.
