DescriptionThe whole story▼

The GSX-R 1000 has been Suzuki's litre-class sportsbike since 2003, a machine built for the track first and the road second, including the 2014 GSX-R 1000 Z. Before a trackday, the oil filler is one of the few places a rider can glance at without stripping fairings, and Accossato supplies the FP001 for it: CNC-machined aluminium, anodised in eight colours, with an M20x1.5 thread.

Key Features

  • Oil filler cap for the Suzuki GSX-R 1000, 2003 to 2019, including the 2014 GSX-R 1000 Z
  • M20x1.5 thread, as specified by Accossato
  • CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised finish throughout
  • Eight colours: orange, blue, green, black, red, silver, titanium, gold
  • Also suits other motorcycles sharing the same filler thread
  • TS005 front brake and TS012 rear brake fluid reservoir caps listed for the same GSX-R
  • A cap that stands up to being checked between sessions, not just once a year
  • No German ABE on file; built for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato machines the FP001 from a block of aluminium and anodises it afterwards, which puts the colour into the surface of the metal rather than over it. The thread is M20x1.5, the only measurement Accossato states, and the cap is said to suit the GSX-R 1000 and the rest of the application list, plus any other bike with a filler of that same size. Titanium, black and silver keep the look close to stock, while orange, red, blue, green or gold mark the cap out on a bike that otherwise looks much like every other GSX-R in the paddock.

Checking Oil Before the Session

At a trackday, the oil check belongs in the paddock between sessions, not after the last one of the day. Only open the filler with the engine stopped and properly cooled, having read the level beforehand exactly as the manual sets out with the bike held level. Wipe around the opening before removing the cap, since grit sitting there falls straight into the filler the moment it comes off, and check the thread and sealing face on the cap and the housing for anything that needs cleaning. Top up in small amounts, checking the level between each one, then turn the FP001 home by hand until it seats and stop there; a cap forced any further is only harder to get off before the next session, not more secure. A look at the filler area after the following session confirms nothing has worked loose.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FP001 for the GSX-R 1000 across its 2003 to 2019 production, covering the Z variant from 2014 as well, and the same cap also fits the Aprilia Caponord 1200 and Caponord 1200 Rally, the Aprilia Dorsoduro range and the Aprilia Shiver 750 and 900, among other models sharing the M20x1.5 size; the application should be checked before ordering. Accossato also lists the TS005 front brake and TS012 rear brake fluid reservoir caps for this GSX-R, so all three can be matched in one colour.

Road Approval

Accossato supplies no test or approval paperwork for the FP001, so Inter-Pace lists it for racing and closed-course use; there is no German ABE on file.
