DescriptionThe whole story▼
With the Panigale V4 of 2018, Ducati moved its superbike to a four-cylinder engine that grew out of the brand's MotoGP work, and the bike soon became a familiar sight in the fast groups at track days. At a busy circuit, several riders often share one pit garage, and bikes, stands, warmers, fuel cans and people all compete for the same small space. Many of the knocks a bike takes on such a day happen there, at walking pace. For the Panigale V4 of 2018 to 2020, Accossato lists the PF050, a pair of black front axle sliders.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the Ducati Panigale V4, 2018 to 2020
- Also listed by Accossato for the V4 Speciale of 2018 and 2019
- Accossato PF050, two protectors in one pack
- Aluminium and plastic, finished in black
- Mounting kit with spacers and screws, as stated by Accossato
- Meant to take the first contact in a fall
- No German ABE available; supplied for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
The PF050 is Accossato's front fork protection for the Panigale V4: two black sliders, one left and one right, each combining aluminium with plastic. Accossato states that the spacers, the screws and all other parts needed for mounting are in the box. If the V4 goes over, whether in a pit garage or in a gravel trap, the sliders should take the first contact at the front, which can reduce the damage to the fork and the axle area. They are made to be sacrificed, and a slider that has been ground down or cracked is replaced rather than kept.
Sharing a Pit Garage
Sharing a garage works when everyone agrees on a few things before the first session. Decide where each bike stands, keep a clear lane to the door and park the stands so that nobody has to lift a bike over another rider's toolbox. Warmers need power, so run the cables along the wall rather than across the floor, and keep fuel cans well away from them. Garage floors are often painted and turn slippery with a little spilled oil or water, which is enough to make a side stand or a boot slide. A frequent accident is a neighbour wheeling their bike past yours without looking, so leave space and turn the bars of the Panigale V4 away from the lane. At the end of the day, when everyone is tired and packing in a hurry, take extra care. If your bike has been knocked, look at the sliders, the levers and the fairing edges before loading it into the van.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PF050 for the Panigale V4 from 2018 to 2020 and for the Speciale version in 2018 and 2019; our listing follows those years. No other Accossato protection part is listed for this model. Remarkably, the same pair also appears in our shop for the twin-cylinder Panigale 1299 and for the V4 R. Please check your Panigale V4 against the application list before ordering. After fitting, tighten the screws as the workshop manual specifies, turn the bars fully both ways and spin the front wheel to make sure nothing rubs.
Road Approval
Accossato has not supplied us with an ABE or any other approval document for the PF050; we offer it for competition use on closed circuits.
