DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Kawasaki Z800 left the range years ago, but plenty are still ridden hard and kept with care, from the standard bike to the E-Version for A2 licence holders. On a machine of this age, the original front discs are often near the end of their life. Accossato's DK235 is an Elite line floating front disc for the Z800, listed from 2013 to 2017. It is 310 mm across with an 80 mm inner diameter and 5 mm thick, like the original, with a black carrier.

Key Features

  • Elite floating front disc for the Kawasaki Z800, 2013 to 2017
  • Listed for the ABS models, the E-Version and the 2016 Special Edition
  • 310 mm outer diameter, 80 mm inner diameter
  • 5 mm thick, equal to the original disc according to the supplier
  • Black carrier, rivets with the Accossato logo
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • One disc per order; the Z800 uses two at the front
  • No German ABE documented; track use

Construction and Material Quality

The DK235 is a floating disc: its braking ring sits on a black carrier and is connected to it by rivets bearing the Accossato logo. That connection lets the ring expand with heat independently of the carrier. Accossato keeps its Elite discs at the thickness of the original, here 5 mm, with an outer diameter of 310 mm and an inner diameter of 80 mm, so the pads meet the disc where they always have. The company, which began in 1969 in Moncalieri near Turin, says its disc design and choice of material reflect experience from Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.

Keeping an Older Z800 Sharp

A bike that is ten years old or more has usually had its tyres and pads changed several times, while the discs are often still the ones fitted at the factory. By now they may be near their minimum, with a clear lip at the rim and a surface that has seen many thousands of stops. On a floating disc the rivets can also wear over the years, and a ring that knocks audibly or moves more than slightly has done its job.

When you renew the front discs of a Z800, make it a thorough job. Change both discs together so the braking stays balanced, fit new pads, and check the caliper pistons for dirt and corrosion; stiff pistons are common on bikes of this age and make pads drag. Check the front wheel bearings and the rim for damage while the wheel is out, and replace brake fluid that has turned dark. Done that way, the whole front brake of an older Z800 is back in a known, fresh condition, and the printed minimum on the new discs gives you a clear reference for the years to come.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK235 for the Kawasaki Z800 from 2013 to 2017: the standard bike with and without ABS from 2013 to 2016, the E-Version from 2013 to 2017 and the Special Edition of 2016. The Z800 has two front discs and each DK235 covers one side, so order two for a complete change. Accossato also offers the EDF021 brake lever and the ESK828 clutch lever for this bike.

Road Approval

The DK235 has neither a documented German ABE nor a type approval, which is why we offer it for track riding only.

Scope of Delivery

One DK235 floating front disc, Elite line, black carrier; the Z800 needs a second for the other side.
