DescriptionThe whole story▼
Off the tarmac, the front brake of a Ducati Desert X is used in a different way. On gravel and sand it has to be squeezed progressively with the bike upright, because a front wheel that locks on loose ground tucks away quickly. Dust and small stones reach the discs on every such ride. The DKS053 from Accossato is a floating front disc listed for the Desert X from 2022 to 2025: 320 mm in diameter and 5.5 mm thick, its black carrier held to the hub by five bolts.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Desert X, 2022 to 2025
- Rally and Discovery versions named in Accossato's list
- 320 mm outside, 72 mm bore, 5.5 mm thick
- Five mounting holes of 8.5 mm, 90 mm hole-centre distance
- Black carrier
- Interchangeable with the original disc, says the supplier
- One disc per purchase; two are fitted at the front
- No German ABE, no type approval documented; for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Inside the DKS053, a friction ring and a black carrier are joined by rivets that let the ring float, so heat can expand the ring while the carrier stays true on the wheel. Accossato quotes a centre bore of 72 mm and a 90 mm hole-centre distance for the five mounting holes, figures worth comparing with the disc you take off. The supplier states that the disc can take the place of the original equipment part. Accossato attributes its expertise to racing in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 and counts carefully set clearances between ring and carrier among the results.
Loose Ground, Light Fingers
On gravel, experienced Desert X riders use the front brake early and gently and let the rear do more of the work than on the road. The front still matters, because on a steep, loose descent it is what keeps the speed in check. Two things help it do that job: discs free of oil and fuel residue, cleaned with brake cleaner rather than a greasy rag, and pads that have not been glazed by long, light dragging. After a dusty day, rinse the wheels with water, dry the discs with a few gentle stops on clean tarmac and look for stone chips at the edge of the ring.
Standing on the Pegs
Standing up, the rider's weight goes through the footpegs, the arms stay loose and the front brake is worked with one or two fingers. That grip leaves little room for a sudden grab at the lever, which suits loose ground, but it also means the brake has to answer small movements of the fingers in a predictable way. Clean discs within their wear limit are part of that.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list the Desert X appears for the DKS053 from 2022 to 2025, with the Desert X Rally named from 2024 and the Discovery for 2025. It replaces one of the two original front discs, and the price is per disc, so the complete front brake needs two. Accossato's other disc for this bike is the DK053, a millimetre thinner; whichever you choose, fit the same type on both sides.
Road Approval
Road use in Germany would need a German ABE or a type approval, and neither is documented for the DKS053. We therefore list it for racing and closed-course riding.
