DescriptionThe whole story▼

With no clutch lever and gears that can change by themselves, the Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid may appeal to riders coming from automatic scooters. One habit has to change, though: on a scooter the rear brake usually sits at the left hand, while on the Z7 Hybrid, as on a conventional motorcycle, it is worked by the right foot. Accossato's DK271 is the fixed rear disc for the Z7 Hybrid, listed for 2024: steel, one piece, 220 mm across and 5 mm thick.

Key Features

  • Fixed rear disc for the Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid, 2024
  • Steel, one piece, from Accossato's off-road range
  • 220 mm outer diameter and 100 mm inner diameter
  • 5 mm thick; three holes of 10.5 mm on a 120 mm circle
  • Replaces the original equipment disc
  • Minimum thickness marked on the disc
  • Front: Accossato DK236 floating disc, also 2024
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato, founded in 1969 in Moncalieri near Turin, describes the DK271 as steel-made. It is built as one piece, with the friction band and the mounting face in one and no rivets in between. The company files it among its fixed discs for off-road motorcycles; on the Z7 Hybrid it serves as the rear disc and, according to Accossato, can replace the original. It measures 220 mm across and 100 mm at the inner diameter and is 5 mm thick, and three 10.5 mm holes on a 120 mm circle take the bolts. Its minimum thickness is marked on the disc.

From Scooter to Foot Brake

Riders who switch from a scooter often forget the rear brake entirely for the first few weeks, or they find it with a heavy boot and lock the rear wheel. Both habits are worth unlearning early. Practise in a quiet car park: rest the ball of your right foot on the pedal rather than the whole sole, press progressively and feel how the Z7 Hybrid slows. Then combine it with the front lever until using both becomes automatic.

The foot brake also takes over the jobs the left-hand lever did on the scooter: holding the bike at a standstill on a slope, keeping it steady while you wait to pull out, and trimming speed at walking pace. Keep the pedal's action light and clean, because a rear disc that is warped, scored or worn thin makes it harder to judge. Look at the disc whenever you check the chain, and replace it when it reaches the minimum printed on it or shows cracks.

Fitment and Compatibility

The Z7 Hybrid appears on Accossato's list for the 2024 model year only, and for that year the DK236 floating disc covers the front wheel. When you fit the DK271, start from a clean hub face, tighten the bolts to the figure Kawasaki gives, and pump the pedal until the pads touch the disc again before you ride off.

Road Approval

This disc has no documented German ABE and no type approval, so we offer it for use on closed circuits.
