DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Thruxton 1200R sharpens the standard café racer with better suspension and brakes, which tempts owners onto twisty roads that cross open farmland, where a cattle grid often appears right where the road narrows into a bend. A cattle grid rattles under any motorcycle's wheels, and a rider on the Thruxton 1200R who crosses one while leant over, rather than upright and in a straight line, risks a front wheel catching between the bars. Accossato lists the TP093 crash pads for the Thruxton 1200R of 2016 to 2018.
Key Features
- Crash pads for the Triumph Thruxton 1200R, 2016 to 2018
- Accossato TP093, a pair of pads per pack
- CNC-machined aluminium body
- Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Matching screw cover as an optional variant
- Same code also listed for several related Triumph models
- Ask us before ordering whether drilling is required on your bike
- No German ABE on file; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Each TP093 pad is shaped from aluminium on CNC equipment and carries an anodised insert in one of six colours, with a matching screw cover offered for those who order it. The pack contains two pads. On a Thruxton 1200R ridden hard on a twisting country road, the pads are there to take the first contact if the bike tips or slides, sparing the frame underneath some of the resulting damage. They are consumables rather than permanent protection, and a pad that has clearly absorbed a heavy impact should be replaced.
A Cattle Grid in the Middle of a Bend
Farm roads often place a cattle grid exactly where a hedge or a stone wall forces the road to narrow, which is also where a rider enjoying the Thruxton 1200R's sharper handling is most likely to still be leant over. The metal bars of a grid run in one direction, and a front wheel that meets them at an angle rather than square on can be deflected just enough to unsettle the bike, particularly if the surface is wet or greasy from livestock crossing it regularly. Slowing down and straightening the bike before any grid, even one that looks familiar, costs very little time and avoids the problem outright. If the Thruxton 1200R does go down on or near a grid, the crash pads take the first contact; check them, the wheels and the levers before continuing the ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Thruxton 1200R keeps to the 2016-to-2018 window that Accossato gives for the TP093, which is the span we use. Being the same part across several related models, it is also listed in our shop for the Bonneville Bobber, the T100 and T120, the Street Cup, the Street Twin and the standard Thruxton 1200. Where drilling is needed, Accossato's catalogue does not say which bikes are affected, so send us your Thruxton 1200R's details before ordering if you want certainty.
Road Approval
As no ABE or test certificate has been supplied for the TP093, we list it for racing and competition use.
