DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every corner on a motocross track offers a choice. The inside rut is the shortest way round, but getting into it demands precise braking; the berm on the outside is longer but more forgiving. On a KTM 250 SX-F, the 250 four-stroke that many riders race in the smaller motocross class, choosing well lap after lap is much of what makes a fast rider. The B8283 from Accossato, CNC-milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, replaces the stock brake lever on the 250 SX-F of 2014 to 2022 with one whose blade can fold.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the KTM 250 SX-F, 2014 to 2022
- Mounts on the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Three-finger blade, shorter than the clutch lever
- Anti-break joint: on impact, the blade can swing forward
- CNC-milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Black, blue or orange blade with a dark base
- No German ABE on record; for motocross and off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato wants its off-road levers strong, light and reliable, and it gets there through material and method. The B8283 is cut from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, on CNC machines in Italy. Its two parts are a dark base, fitted to the pivot of the front brake master cylinder and carrying the joint, and a blade in black, blue or orange that can fold forward on it. Accossato draws its brake levers shorter than its clutch levers, and this one is sized for three fingers.
Inside Rut or Round the Berm
Taking the inside rut starts well before the corner. The rider has to scrub off speed on the straight, lining the bike up with the rut while the front brake is still working hard, then release the brake just as the front wheel drops in, so the fork can settle and the tyre can follow the groove. Brake too late and the front wheel skips over the rut's edge; release too early and the bike arrives too fast to hold the line. The berm asks for less precision, which is why tired riders drift towards it as a race wears on.
Both lines end in crashes now and then. A front wheel that climbs out of the rut, a berm that collapses under the bike, a rider who dives underneath you: the 250 SX-F goes down, often to the right, and the brake lever takes a knock from the rut wall or the hard-packed berm. On the B8283, the blade can hinge forward instead of snapping, which gives it a chance of surviving the fall. That does not replace a spare in the van, but it can mean the difference between rejoining the moto and walking back to the pits.
Fitment and Compatibility
Model years 2014 to 2022 of the KTM 250 SX-F are covered by the B8283, which replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder. For the clutch side, Accossato lists the folding C7283 over a longer run of the same bike, 2007 to 2022, and adds red to its colours. Owners of a 250 SX-F from 2014 or later can therefore fit a matching pair in black, blue or orange.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for the B8283. It is made for motocross and off-road racing, the use the 250 SX-F is designed for.
