DescriptionThe whole story▼
An enduro loop that crosses meadows in early summer can look inviting and hide almost anything. Tall grass covers rocks, drainage ditches, old fence posts and holes dug by animals, and on a Kawasaki KLX 450R, a big four-stroke enduro that covers ground quickly, the first sign of trouble is often the front wheel stopping dead. Accossato builds the B8262 for this bike: a folding front brake lever for the KLX 450R from 2008 to 2020, CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a short blade for three fingers.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Kawasaki KLX 450R, 2008 to 2020
- Replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder
- Short blade for three fingers
- Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward rather than snap
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, gold or green on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and enduro competition use
Construction and Material Quality
On a Kawasaki, a green blade is the obvious way to pick up the colour of the bodywork, but the B8262 is also made in black, blue and gold. Every version is CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075; Accossato, which collected an enduro world title in 1985, relies on this high-strength aluminium alloy for strength and reliability at low weight. The coloured blade is joined to a dark base, which sits on the pivot of the original master cylinder, by the joint that allows it to fold. The brake blade is the short design, meant for three fingers.
What the Long Grass Hides
Riding through long grass calls for a different kind of attention. Stand up so you can see further, keep the speed down on a first lap, and read the surface indirectly: a line of darker grass may mark a ditch, a mound may hide a stone, and a gap in a hedge line often means a gatepost somewhere nearby. Follow existing wheel tracks where you can, because someone has already found out what lies underneath. On a KLX 450R it is tempting to open the throttle across an open field, but the speed carried there is exactly what makes a hidden obstacle dangerous.
When the front wheel does hit something, the bike usually stops abruptly and tips to one side, sometimes throwing the rider over the bars. If it lands on its right, the brake lever takes the impact, often against the same rock that caused the fall. The joint of the B8262 gives the blade the chance of folding forward instead of breaking, so there is a fair chance of riding on with a working front brake once the bike has been lifted and checked. It is no promise, and a heavy fall can damage anything, but it makes a single hidden rock less likely to end the day on the KLX 450R.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8262 for the Kawasaki KLX 450R from 2008 to 2020, where it takes over from the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder. The C7165 folding clutch lever covers the same thirteen model years in black, blue or green; gold is available on this brake lever only.
Road Approval
Accossato has no German ABE on file for the B8262. Where a KLX 450R carries a number plate, the lever is still not approved for public roads; its proper place is enduro competition and riding on private off-road ground.
