Staggered for the R
The offset pattern on a body cut specifically for this model. The aligned version covers the other clamp arrangement and neither serves for both.
How Terminals Give Up
Oxidation rather than breakage. A wet contact builds resistance over a season and the switch becomes unreliable long before anything actually fails.
The Block Is the Part
Ducati offers nothing smaller in its catalogue. That is the practical reason this component exists as a complete assembly rather than as a switch cluster.
A Tolerance That Holds
Machining is repeatable indefinitely where moulding tools wear across their life. On a homologation special that will be rebuilt repeatedly, that consistency matters.
Printing Fades
The legends on a moulded block are surface applied and they go first. A machined body carries none, so nothing is lost to sunlight and glove leather.
Read by the Hand
Defined edges and honest travel give feedback a smooth surface withholds. On an R being ridden at the limit, the eyes are entirely occupied elsewhere.
A Dry Clutch
Ducati had abandoned them across the range and put one back on the R. It handles repeated racing starts better and it makes the noise the marque is remembered for.
Two Hundred and Forty Horsepower
With the full racing kit fitted. The road figure is lower and nobody who buys an R leaves the standard exhaust on it for very long.
Nine Hundred and Ninety-Eight Cubic Centimetres
Ducati shortened the Stradale's stroke to fall under the World Superbike limit. Everything unusual about the R follows from making that engine survive its ceiling.
Aerodynamics From the Racing Bike
The R's winglets were developed for World Superbike and produce measurable load well below its top speed. With this much power the problem is keeping the front wheel loaded under acceleration, and the solution reached the road because the rules required a homologated version.
