DescriptionThe whole story

The JP ES 022 removes the side stand interlock from the Multistrada 1200's decision making, which matters on a machine with no stand fitted and nothing to interlock with.

Key Features

  • Ducati Multistrada 1200 (2010–2018)
  • Answers the side stand input
  • Lets the engine run in gear with no stand fitted
  • Plugs into Ducati's own connector
  • Nothing cut, nothing spliced
  • Standard switch refits at any time

Two Hundred and Thirty-Two Kilograms

Wet, which is substantial and carried high. The Multistrada 1200 is a big motorcycle and never pretended otherwise.

A Short Life

Compared with anything else electrical on the motorcycle the sidestand switch is a consumable. High-mileage machines have usually had one replaced already.

Not the Clutch Switch

Ducati reads the clutch lever separately, and a bike that will not start in gear may be reporting either. Establishing which saves ordering the wrong part.

Preparation Order

Lights, mirrors, plate, stand, then everything else. Fitting the eliminator immediately means the engine will run in gear for the rest of the work.

On a Panigale on a Circuit

The stand is among the first components removed, along with the mirrors and the plate. Very few track-prepared superbikes retain one for long.

Why the Switch Is Where It Is

It has to sense the stand, so it lives at the lowest and dirtiest point on the motorcycle, in the spray from the front wheel and within reach of every pressure washer ever aimed at a swingarm. No manufacturer has found a better answer and Ducati is not alone in accepting the compromise.

Keep the Switch and the Bracket

They go back on their own fasteners with nothing needing replacement, and having them is what turns an inspection, a warranty conversation or a sale into something straightforward rather than a search for used parts.

Why Switches Fail

The unit sits at the bottom of the motorcycle, on the left, directly in the path of everything the front wheel picks up. Salt gets into it, a pressure washer finishes the job, and the contacts eventually read intermittently. The symptom is an engine that cuts out on a left-hand bend, which is memorable.
