DescriptionThe whole story▼
Forty horsepower from a 250. Of the three Evolution Line systems Akrapovic lists for Yamaha's 250 four-stroke, this one for the 2019 and 2020 bikes carries the highest figures — 40.0 PS and 26.6 Nm, both above what the 2024 and later system produces on the newer engine.
Key Features
- Titanium complete system for the 2019 and 2020 250 Yamahas
- 3.1 kg instead of 3.9 kg — 0.8 kg less, a fifth of the weight
- 40.0 PS at 12,150 rpm, up from 39.5
- 26.6 Nm, up from 26.2 — the best torque figure of the three
- Fits YZ250F, YZ250FX and WR250F
Comparing the generations honestly
The 2019–2020 engine makes more measured power with this system than the 2024–2026 engine does with its own. That is not a claim that the older bike is faster: the two were measured on different machines with different gearing and different mapping, and peak power is only one point on a curve.
What it does show is that this is not a compromise system for an older bike. It is the full Evolution Line treatment for its generation.
Two model years only
Yamaha revised the 250 in 2019 and again in 2021, so this system covers a narrow window. Check the model year before ordering: a 2018 bike takes S-Y2MET14-CIBNTA and a 2021 bike takes neither of them.
Not for the road
Closed course competition only. No EC or ECE approval, and fitting it to a road-registered WR250F removes the basis for that registration.
Why a two-year window exists at all
Akrapovic ties a part number to a chassis, not to an engine. When Yamaha moved the shock, changed the subframe or altered the airbox for 2021, the header route changed with it — and a system that fits a 2020 will not sit on a 2021 even if the motor is unchanged.
This is why the year matters more on a motocross bike than on a road bike: the manufacturers revise the chassis on a two- or three-year cycle, and the exhaust is one of the parts that moves.
Titanium on a machine that gets crashed
Titanium takes a dent where steel takes a crease and aluminium splits. On a motocross bike, which will be laid down repeatedly in a season, that behaviour is worth more than the weight saving to a lot of riders: the system deforms, keeps its gas path and carries on working.
It also anneals to a bronze and blue colour where it runs hottest. That is normal, it is not damage, and it is the reason a used titanium system looks the way it does.
Sound at a club meeting
Akrapovic does not publish a decibel figure for this system, and we will not put one here. What is known is that a full titanium system with fresh packing sits in a different place on a meter from the same system after two seasons — repacking is the variable, not the pipe.
If a specific limit has to be met, the honest advice is to have the bike measured rather than to trust a catalogue number.
What to check on a used bike
Before ordering for a 2019 or 2020 Yamaha, look at the exhaust port studs. On a machine that has had several exhausts fitted they are often stretched, and a titanium flange pulled onto tired studs is how a leak starts.
