DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki built the Versys-X 300 as a small, light adventure bike, and for many riders it is the machine on which they first leave the tarmac. A good way to learn is a course at an off-road training park, where the ground is private, instructors are on hand and nobody minds a slow first lap. Such places are full of enduro and motocross bikes, some of them two-strokes running on premix, and that brings a fuel question of its own. For the Versys-X 300 of 2017 to 2023, Accossato makes the FC126, a machined aluminium filler cap that opens by a quick-closing pawl.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Kawasaki Versys-X 300, 2017 to 2023
- All aluminium, CNC-machined, robust and durable in Accossato's words
- Quick-closing pawl for fast access to the filler
- Pawl pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Spare pawl available separately, for instance after a tip-over
- New design by Accossato
- No German ABE on record; for circuits and closed ground
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato CNC-machines the FC126 entirely from aluminium and calls it robust and durable. The design is new, and the quick-closing pawl lets the Versys-X 300's tank be opened and closed without delay. Its pin is ordered in whichever of the six colours you prefer. If the pawl is damaged, for example when the bike topples over at walking pace on a muddy slope, a replacement can be bought separately while the cap itself stays in place. Off-road riding is familiar ground for Accossato, too: the company's history includes an enduro world title in 1985.
Premix Next to Unleaded
Two-stroke enduro bikes run on premix, petrol with the oil already blended in, and their owners carry it in cans that look very much like those filled with plain unleaded. In a busy off-road paddock the two often stand side by side under the same awning or in the back of the same van. Pour premix into the Versys-X 300 and the tank should really be drained before the day goes on; pour plain unleaded into a two-stroke and its engine can seize for lack of oil. The answer is clear labelling. Mark your cans in large letters on more than one side, use a different colour of can or tape for each fuel, and keep your own cans together, apart from everyone else's. Never borrow a can without asking what is in it. When you refuel the Versys-X 300, switch off, open the FC126, pour slowly and close the pawl before anything else happens.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list gives the FC126 for the Versys-X 300 from 2017 to 2023, in a single entry for the whole period. In our garage the product also appears under the Adventure and Urban versions of the bike. The same cap is catalogued with us for the Ninja 400 and the Versys 1000. Compare your model year with the list before ordering.
Road Approval
For the FC126 no German ABE and no parts certificate are documented, so it is a part for circuits and closed private ground. The Versys-X 300's own cap normally locks with the key, and it is the right one for the road.
