DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Ducati DesertX was styled after the rally machines of the Dakar era, and many owners take the idea literally, riding on gravel, sand and closed off-road courses where dust gets into everything. Refuelling in such places means opening the tank in conditions a filler neck does not like. For the DesertX from 2023 to 2025, and for the DesertX Rally of 2024 and 2025, Accossato lists the FC105, an aluminium cap machined on CNC equipment that opens and closes by means of a quick-closing pawl with a pin in the colour you choose.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Ducati DesertX, 2023 to 2025
- Also listed for the DesertX Rally, 2024 and 2025
- Made entirely of CNC-machined aluminium
- Quick-closing pawl for fast opening and closing of the tank
- Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Spare pawl available separately
- No German ABE documented; closed-course use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's history includes an Enduro world title in 1985, so off-road riding is familiar ground for the company. The FC105 is made entirely of aluminium, machined on CNC equipment, and Accossato presents it as sturdy and durable, with a new design meant to catch the eye. A quick-closing pawl lets you get into the tank and seal it again without delay, and its pin comes in six colours. On a bike that spends time in rough places, one point matters more than usual: a damaged pawl can be bought separately, so a knock does not cost you the whole cap.
Dust, Sand and an Open Filler Neck
Grit in a fuel tank eventually heads for the filter and the pump, so the minutes around refuelling on dusty ground deserve care. Park the DesertX with its back to the wind, switch off and let the dust settle before you touch the cap. Wipe the cap and its surroundings with a clean cloth so nothing on top falls into the neck when it opens. If you are filling from a can, pour through a funnel with a fine mesh, keep the spout close to the opening and close the cap as soon as the tank is full. On sand, put a board or a flat stone under the side stand so the bike does not sink and lean further while you pour. Afterwards, check the seal area for grains that could stop the cap from seating evenly, because a cap that does not close properly can let fuel out when the bike is shaken over rough ground.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list covers the DesertX from 2023 to 2025 and the DesertX Rally from 2024 to 2025. Bikes from the first model year, 2022, are not named, so owners of an early DesertX should compare the list with their bike before ordering. The identical cap appears in our range for the Scrambler 1100 and the Panigale V4.
Road Approval
Accossato documents no German ABE and no expert report for the FC105, so it is sold for closed courses and competition. Factory caps generally lock, and on public roads the DesertX keeps its original.
