DescriptionThe whole story▼
For an MT-09 SP from 2018 to 2023 that is about to go to its first track day, the front pads are a natural thing to upgrade. Accossato's AGPA97EV1 fits that generation of SP and uses the EV1 street/track compound. It is designed for riders moving from fast road riding to occasional circuit use, and it lets them ride to the track, use the bike there and ride home without changing pads.
Key Features
- Front pads for the Yamaha MT-09 SP, 2018 to 2023
- Article AGPA97EV1 in the EV1 street/track compound
- Accossato claims excellent grip on the road and at amateur track level
- Suited to a first track day and fast road riding
- Two pads per box, one set for one caliper
- The SP has two front calipers, so order two boxes
- The later SP from 2024 uses the AGPA106
- No German ABE on file; offered for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
On the AGPA97 plate, Accossato's EV1 compound is described as providing excellent grip for road riding and amateur circuit use. It uses the same backing shape as the other compounds for this generation of SP, so fitting is straightforward. Accossato designs it, like the rest of the range, to limit heating and fade.
Getting Ready for a First Track Day
A first track day on an SP is an exciting step, and preparation makes it safer and more enjoyable. Start a week or two before: fit the new pads and bed them in on the road with a series of progressively firmer stops. Replace the brake fluid if it is more than a year or so old, as track use heats it far more than road riding. Check the discs for wear and warping. On the day, take the first sessions steadily to learn the circuit and find braking markers, and increase pace gradually. Between sessions, look at the pads and let the brakes cool before riding home.
Fitment and Compatibility
Which pad your SP needs depends on its model year. The first-generation run from 2018 up to 2023 is the one this AGPA97 is catalogued for; a 2024 or newer SP needs the AGPA106 from the same maker. At the back, nothing changed: the AGPP88 covers the rear caliper throughout. With a caliper on each front disc, you are buying two boxes. Ahead of track day week, push the pistons back only once they are clean, look for a lip on the disc edges, and flush in new fluid. The DK077 and DKS073 discs appear in Accossato's list for this SP if the old pair is tired.
Road Approval
We hold no German ABE or approval documents for this pad. The AGPA97EV1 is therefore supplied for track and competition use.
