DescriptionThe whole story▼
Some descents are harder than any climb. A steep bank of wet clay, polished by the tyres of the riders ahead, gives the front wheel almost nothing, and braking becomes a matter of feel: enough to hold the speed, never enough to lock. On a GasGas EC 250, a two-stroke enduro that generations of riders have taken into muddy European forests, the front brake decides whether you reach the bottom upright. Accossato's B8206 is a folding brake lever for the EC 250, listed for 2003 to 2015 and for 2018 and 2019.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the GasGas EC 250 two-stroke
- Listed for 2003 to 2015 and for 2018 to 2019
- Replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder
- Short blade designed for three fingers
- Accossato's anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward rather than break
- Machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Blade in black, blue, gold or red on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Ergal 7075 belongs to a family of aluminium alloys that is widely used in aircraft structures, valued wherever high strength has to come with little weight. Accossato machines the B8206 from a solid piece of it on CNC equipment in Italy and names strength, lightness and reliability as its aims. The result has two parts, a dark base at the master cylinder pivot and a blade in the colour you choose, connected by a joint so that the blade can fold. For the brake, Accossato keeps the blade short, shaped for three fingers.
Down a Bank of Wet Clay
Clay changes character with every drop of water. Dry, it is hard and grippy; wet, it turns as slippery as soap, and a rutted descent that was easy in the morning is treacherous by the afternoon. Riders get down such slopes with their weight far back, the engine in a low gear, the rear brake dragging and the front brake used in small, careful squeezes. Too much front brake and the wheel locks and slides, the bike stepping sideways out of the rut.
When that happens halfway down a steep bank, the EC 250 usually ends up on its side and may slide a few metres with the lever pressed into the clay. On the right, that lever is the front brake the rider still needs for the rest of the descent. The B8206's hinged blade can give way forward instead of snapping, which offers a decent chance of standing the bike up and carrying on with the brake intact. It isn't guaranteed, and a buried stone can still break it, but a blade that yields is more likely to be useful at the bottom than one that resists.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8206 for the GasGas EC 250 in two periods: 2003 to 2015, when the bike was built by the original Spanish company, and 2018 to 2019, after Torrot had taken over the brand. There was no 2016 model year, and Accossato does not list the 2017 EC 250 for this lever. It replaces the stock lever on the bike's existing front brake master cylinder. On the clutch side there are two choices: the C7283 for 2003 to 2015 and the C7284 for 2018 and 2019.
Road Approval
Accossato's B8206 does not come with a German ABE. The EC 250 is commonly registered for the road, yet the lever is not approved for public roads and is meant for off-road riding and competition.
