DescriptionThe whole story▼

Few things test a clutch hand like a mountain pass climbed on a loaded bike. The hairpins on the way up are slow, steep and tight, and each one asks for the clutch to be slipped just enough to keep the Hyperstrada 821 moving without stalling or lurching forward. The Accossato ESD082 takes the place of the clutch lever on the 2013 to 2015 Hyperstrada 821. It is machined from aluminium, and its reach can be adjusted so that the friction point sits where your fingers are strongest.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Hyperstrada 821, 2013 to 2015
  • Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
  • Adjustable distance from the grip
  • Short, standard (approximately 138 mm) or long blade
  • Black hub, blade anodised in the colour of your choice
  • CNC-machined aluminium
  • Rigid, no folding section
  • Track use; no German ABE is documented

Construction and Material Quality

An enduro world title, which Accossato won in 1985, is earned in slow and difficult terrain as much as at speed, and clutch control is part of that craft. The company's clutch levers today are CNC-machined from solid aluminium and anodised. On the ESD082 the pivot end is black and the blade is coloured to order. The lever is fixed, one rigid piece from pivot to tip, so the friction point you find on the first hairpin is where you will find it on the last.

Uphill Hairpins

On a steep hairpin the Hyperstrada 821 drops to walking pace while the road tilts upward and the bars turn towards full lock. Throttle, clutch and rear brake work together: the engine is held just above idle, the clutch slips to meter the drive, and the rear brake trims the speed. The clutch hand does the finest work in this, holding a position in the middle of the lever travel for several seconds at a time.

If the blade rests too far out, that position lies near the end of the fingers' reach, where control is weakest. Set it closer and the friction point moves into the range where the fingers are strong and precise. With luggage on board, the standard or long blade gives the most leverage for this sustained work.

Fitment and Compatibility

The ESD082 is listed for the Hyperstrada 821 from 2013 to 2015. Accossato pairs it with the EDB012 brake lever for the same bike and years, both with black hubs and the same seven colours. For the Hyperstrada 939 that followed, please see the separate product page.

Road Approval

As no German ABE has been documented, this lever is sold exclusively for racetrack use.
