A race weekend is not one long ride, it is four or five short ones with an hour of work between them, and parts that suit it are parts that can be serviced in that hour. That is the practical argument for a washable element on a Honda CBR500R being raced or used for track days. The Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 comes out, gets blown through with the compressor that is already in the paddock, and goes back in before the next session — no spare to carry, no part number to have remembered, no consumable to run out of on Sunday afternoon. The medium itself is the racing one: dry polyester flowing 15,000 l/m²/sec at a filtration of 85 microns.
Key Features
- Air flow of 15,000 l/m²/sec from the racing medium, filtering at 85 microns
- Nothing to reapply after cleaning and nothing to travel downstream: the polyester is dry and unoiled
- The filtering area is roughly double that of other performance elements
- It replaces the standard element in the standard airbox, with no modification and no remap
- Compressed air from the clean side puts it back to session-ready condition
- A two-year warranty, on a part built to last the life of the motorcycle
Consistency across a weekend, not a peak figure
The useful thing a clean element does over two days of running is keep the engine's intake in the same condition on Sunday evening as on Saturday morning. Gravel traps, kerbs and a paddock full of moving vehicles put more into the air than the surface of the circuit suggests, and an element that loads across a weekend takes the bike's behaviour with it — gradually, unevenly, and in a way that is easy to blame on tyres or fuel. Being able to return the CM220S F1-85 to its starting condition in ten minutes removes that variable from the weekend rather than improving anything about it.
The trade being made, stated plainly
The F1-85 flows about three times what the standard P08 does and filters at 85 microns instead of 80. The wider aperture is the price of the flow, and it is a price that makes sense in a context where the engine is inspected on a schedule measured in running hours. Ridden on the road between meetings, the CBR500R is better served by the standard P08, and by the P14 if the route is dusty. Buying the racing medium for a bike that only ever commutes is paying a competition price for slightly coarser filtration.
Care and cleaning
The hour between sessions covers all of it. Compressed air from the clean side, worked outwards, and the element is back in the airbox dry. At the end of a meeting, when there is time, lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, then open air until it is dry throughout — not with a heat source, not near a flame. Oil is never part of it. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CBR500R from 2019 to 2026. The same CM220S F1-85 element covers six machines across the 400 and 500 twin range; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
