The five microns that separate this element from the standard one are not an abstraction. They are a decision about where a motorcycle spends its time. Air above a closed circuit is comparatively clean, and a wider opening there costs almost nothing. Air along a public road carries brake dust, tyre rubber, agricultural dust in late summer and whatever the winter salt lorries left behind — and the CFMOTO SS 450, listed since 2023 and the longest-running of the four machines on this part number, is the one most likely to have gathered a few thousand kilometres of exactly that.
Key Features
- An 85 micron opening at a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec: the highest-flowing medium in the range
- Woven dry polyester with no coating — nothing to apply and nothing to migrate
- Roughly twice the surface area of a typical performance element
- Replaces the series panel in the SS 450 airbox without modification or remap
- Compressed air returns it to service; it is not a part that gets thrown away
- Designed for the life of the machine and warranted for two years
A choice about the road, not the bike
Sprint Filter offers this same housing three other ways, and two of them point in the opposite direction: a P14 at 14 microns and a rated 1,800 l/m²/sec, and a T12 finer again at 7 microns and 560. The line they sit on is a trade and not a ranking — the finer the material, the more it holds back and the less it passes for a given area. The F1-85 occupies the far end of that line, and it belongs to riders whose air is clean and whose sessions are short. Road use is the other case: more time, dirtier air, and longer gaps between the occasions when anyone opens the box.
What close to three times buys
Set against the standard element for this housing, this one asks close to three times as much, and the honest inventory of the difference is short: a higher rated flow, a slightly wider opening, and nothing further. The fitting is the same, the dry principle is the same, the warranty is the same. Power is not on the list, because a bolt-in element does not make a standard SS 450 noticeably quicker and no medium in the range does. Ridden on the road, the SS is better off with the standard cloth; raced, it wants this one, which is what Sprint Filter built it for.
Care and cleaning
Looking after this element costs nothing but time. Compressed air, applied to the clean face and moved steadily across the panel, pushes the load back through the side that gathered it. A greasy film is the exception: lukewarm water, a small amount of mild detergent, then a rinse until the water runs clear. Drying happens in open air and never against heat, since a heater or a flame will damage the polyester, and the PM270S F1-85 goes back into the housing only once it is dry through. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the CFMOTO SS 450 built from 2023 to 2026, the longest production span of the four CFMOTO models on this element. One panel per machine; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
