Four media are catalogued for this airbox: the racing F1-85 at 85 microns, the standard P08 at 80, the water-repellent P037 at 37 and the P14 at 14. Written down like that they look like rungs, and they are not. They are positions on one line, and every move toward finer retention is a move away from flow. PM154S F1-85 sits at one end of it — the only one of the four that gives something away at the fine end instead of at the flow end.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester in the F1-85 racing specification; no oil is used on it at any point
- 85 microns at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow rate among the five media
- Measured retention of 95.22 % of 100-micron particles against 93.13 % for the standard P08
- About double the filtering area of other performance elements
- Fits the unmodified series airbox in place of the paper panel — nothing cut, no remap
- Cleaned with compressed air and refitted; two years of warranty from purchase
One line, four positions
Read down it and the flow figures fall away quickly: 15,000, then 5,050, then 4,500, then 1,800 l/m²/sec, while the apertures close from 85 microns to 14. Choosing a position means naming the conditions the machine meets rather than picking the best entry, because there is no best entry. Three of the four move in the direction of holding more back; this one is the only one that moves the other way, and it does so for a narrow purpose — circuit use, with the element inspected between sessions rather than between services.
The condition attached to the flow figure
Whatever a wider weave lets through is not caught further along. It finishes on the working surfaces and in the oil, which is why a racing specification quietly assumes racing service intervals for the whole engine and not merely for the filter. That condition is supplied by the owner, not by the part. It should also be plain that no element in a series airbox makes a standard motorcycle noticeably faster: the panel returns the resistance it introduced and nothing beyond it, and on a machine used on public roads the standard P08 in the same housing is the sensible default.
Care and cleaning
Dry throughout. An air line against the clean side of the PM154S F1-85, directed outward, brings it back between sessions and it can be refitted at once. When a wet session has soaked it, lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and a rinse until the water runs clear, followed by a full dry in moving air — never heat, never a flame. It goes back in dry with nothing applied and the seal evenly seated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Bimota KB998 Rimini of 2025 and 2026 and for the Kawasaki ZX10R Ninja + ABS from 2016 to 2026 — two machines, both named in the Fitment tab. The P14 and the water-repellent P037 are catalogued for the same housing under the Bimota alone.
