The Norden 901 shares its 889 cc parallel twin with KTM's 890 Adventure, and it shares rather more than the engine. A platform part, not a model part

Motorcycle manufacturers share airboxes across a platform because airboxes are expensive to develop and to homologate. What that means downstream is that some service items are tied to the model and some are tied to the platform. Brake pads and screens follow the model; the air filter follows the airbox. The PM155S spans two brands and thirteen motorcycles, from a 692 cc single to a 1301 cc V-twin, because those machines share intake hardware even where they share nothing else. A part with that footprint stays in production and stays on shelves.

What the Norden actually asks of a filter

This is a motorcycle designed to be ridden a long way on surfaces that are not always sealed. Dust is the load case that matters, and it is the one where an oiled cotton element is the wrong answer twice over: the oil traps dust into a paste that raises restriction faster than the filter's rating suggests, and any oil that migrates downstream ends up on a hot-film sensor that reads it as air. The P08 is dry polyester, woven from threads of at least 22 micrometres, with roughly twice the surface area of other performance elements. There is no oil to migrate, and when it does load up you clear it with compressed air at the end of the day rather than carrying a spare.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame.
