The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Sport is the Scrambler 1100 with Öhlins at both ends and lower bars, and better damping changes an engine's life more than it changes a chassis. A rider who trusts the suspension carries more speed, gets on the throttle earlier and does it more often, which means the air-cooled twin is worked harder and far more repeatedly than in the same bike on standard units. PM127S is the woven polyester panel for that airbox, and this version is the one that will call on it most.
Key Features
- Woven polyester, run dry, with no coating to be drawn downstream
- Around twice the medium area of a conventional performance panel
- Filament from 22 micrometres upward, woven to a calibrated aperture
- Drops into the standard box; ducting, seal and mapping all stay as they were
- Restored with an air line instead of replaced at each service
- Two-year warranty running from purchase
Damping you trust becomes throttle you use
The practical effect of a proper suspension package is that the rider stops being the limiting factor in a corner. The throttle opens earlier, harder and more often, and each of those openings is a demand for a step change in airflow. Because restriction climbs with the volume being drawn through the panel, a partly loaded element charges most at exactly those moments. The engine never protests; it simply answers with slightly less authority than it did last year. You are not buying speed here — you are buying the absence of that slow decline.
Back to the same starting point
A paper panel has one direction of travel. It leaves the box in worse condition than it entered, and every kilometre in between was ridden against a restriction a little higher than the last. This cloth has two directions: it loads, and then a wash puts it back where it started. Across the seven model years the Sport was built, that is the difference between a recurring running cost and a single fitting, which is why Sprint Filter specifies the element as a lifetime part rather than a service item.
Care and cleaning
Most of the time an air line does everything needed, applied to the clean face and blown outward. When the cloth has taken on more than air will shift, wash it in warm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water leaves clean. Drying is done in air, unhurried, with no heater and no flame anywhere near it, and the panel is refitted dry. Sprint Filter's care sheet is in the Downloads tab.
