DescriptionThe whole story▼

The ZX-6R with the 636 cc engine is a supersport machine that many riders use on the road and at track days alike, and it rewards precise braking more than most bikes do. Much of a quick rider's front brake work happens while the motorcycle is already leaning into the corner. For the ZX-6R of 2013 to 2023, Accossato lists the DK235, a floating disc from its Elite line with a 310 mm ring as thick as the original and a black carrier with logo rivets.

Key Features

  • Floating front brake disc for the Kawasaki ZX-6R 636, 2013 to 2023
  • Also listed for the ABS and KRT versions
  • Elite line, thickness equal to the original disc: 5 mm
  • 310 mm outside, 80 mm inside diameter
  • Black carrier, logo on the rivets
  • Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
  • Sold singly; the front wheel of the ZX-6R has two discs
  • No German ABE documented, for circuit use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato makes the DK235 from a friction ring and a carrier, riveted together so that the ring floats. The ring measures 310 mm and keeps the 5 mm thickness of the original Kawasaki disc; the carrier is black, with a centre opening of 80 mm. As on every Elite disc, the rivet heads carry the Accossato logo. Accossato values low weight in a disc because, as it puts it, less mass at the wheel makes a motorcycle easier to steer and control, and it credits the braking force of its discs to their design and a careful choice of raw material.

Carrying the Brake into the Corner

Trail braking means carrying some front brake from the straight into the first part of the corner and easing it off gradually as the lean angle grows. Done well, it keeps the front tyre loaded and the fork compressed, which tightens the steering geometry and helps the ZX-6R turn in. Done badly, with a sudden release or too much pressure at full lean, it unsettles the bike and can overload the tyre.

The technique asks for a lever that behaves identically every time: the same free travel, the same bite point, the same progression. A disc that has worn unevenly, glazed over or collected deposits of pad material makes the feel unpredictable, because the grip changes as the wheel turns. Before practising, measure the discs, check that the pads have plenty of material left and that the fluid is fresh. Then build the technique up gradually on a track day, at a corner you know well, releasing the lever a little later each lap. A public road, where the surface can change without warning, is the wrong place to learn it.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK235 for the ZX-6R 636 from 2013 to 2023, together with the ABS version of 2013 to 2017 and the KRT edition of 2016 to 2019. It replaces one original front disc. The ZX-6R carries two and each order contains one, so a full change needs two discs. Compare the dimensions above with the discs on your bike, and follow Kawasaki's tightening specification for the disc bolts.

Road Approval

We have no German ABE and no type approval on file for the DK235. It is intended for track days and racing.
