DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Monster 1200 S is a naked bike that plenty of owners take on long trips, and a tour through the Alps shows both sides of it: at home on the climbs, awkward in a gravel lay-by at the top of a pass. Accossato's LV013 replaces the front brake lever of the Monster 1200 S from 2014 to 2020 with a folding, adjustable lever machined from aluminium. Its hinged blade is meant for exactly those slow, clumsy moments that are part of every trip.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Monster 1200 S, 2014 to 2020
- Fits the original brake master cylinder
- Blade folds on a hinge when struck
- Reach to the grip adjustable at the base
- Aluminium, CNC-machined, anodised
- Black base with blade in eight colours, titanium included
- RST lightening cut-out or plain blade
- Sold for track use, no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Made from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised afterwards, the LV013 consists of two parts. At the pivot sits a black base with the adjuster that sets the distance to the grip; attached to it by a hinge is the blade, which can fold away from an impact. Colours for the blade are black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver and titanium. RST blades have a lightening cut-out, NRST blades are solid, and both use the same base and hinge.
Gravel at the Top of the Pass
Every pass road seems to end at the same summit: a car park of loose gravel, a café, a view and a crowd of motorcycles. Stopping there on a Monster 1200 S means turning slowly across stones that roll under the tyres, and it is here, not on the descent, that many bikes go over. The front wheel washes out at walking pace, the rider cannot hold the weight, and the bike lies on its right side with the brake lever buried in the gravel.
A hinged blade will not stop that from happening, but it may decide how the rest of the day goes. If the LV013's blade folds rather than breaking, you pick the Monster 1200 S up, check the lever and continue over the pass. If it had snapped, you would be facing a long descent with a stub of a lever. Riders on long trips often carry a spare lever in the tank bag anyway; with a folding one fitted, the hope is that the spare stays in its wrapping until the end of the holiday.
Fitment and Compatibility
The LV013 is listed for the Monster 1200 S across 2014 to 2020, the Stripes versions of 2015 and 2016 and US models included. The LV015 folding clutch lever and the RA002, a brake lever with a remote adjuster, cover the same model years. Accossato's fixed EDF099 brake lever is also listed for this bike, from 2014 to 2021.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, the LV013 is sold for track riding.
