DescriptionThe whole story▼

A Hypermotard 939 is an entertaining way to get to work: narrow enough for traffic, upright enough to see over the cars, and lively enough to make the commute a part of the day to look forward to. The commute is also where the clutch works hardest, at every traffic light and in every slow-moving queue. The Accossato ESD082 is a clutch lever for the Hypermotard 939 and 939 SP of 2016 to 2018, machined from aluminium, with a distance to the grip you can set so that the left hand tires less.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Hypermotard 939 and 939 SP, 2016 to 2018
  • Uses the original clutch mounting
  • Reach adjustable close to the pivot
  • Lengths: short, standard (approximately 138 mm), long
  • Black anodised hub, blade in one of seven colours
  • Machined from solid aluminium
  • Fixed one-piece blade
  • No German ABE documented; offered for the track

Construction and Material Quality

A commuter's bike sees rain, road salt and the occasional hurried wash. The ESD082 is milled from solid aluminium on CNC machines and then anodised, a treatment that turns its surface into a sealed, hard oxide layer and keeps corrosion away far longer than bare aluminium could manage. Colour goes on the blade only, and the hub at the pivot end is black on every version. As a fixed lever without a hinge, it also has no extra joint in which grit from winter roads can collect.

Traffic Lights and Queues

On a typical ride to work the Hypermotard 939 stops and starts dozens of times. Each start means pulling the clutch in fully, holding it while the light is red and releasing it smoothly as the traffic moves; each queue means feathering it at walking pace. A lever that sits a fraction too far from the grip turns all of this into a stretch, and after forty minutes the forearm notices. Bringing the blade closer with the adjuster reduces the span your fingers have to cover.

The long blade then adds leverage, so the pull feels lighter; the standard length is a sensible middle if you also ride the 939 hard at weekends. At a long red light, selecting neutral and letting go rests the hand completely.

Fitment and Compatibility

Both the Hypermotard 939 and the 939 SP appear in Accossato's list for this clutch lever, across the 2016 to 2018 model years. The brake side differs between the two: the standard bike takes the EDB012, the SP the EDD001. The earlier Hypermotard 821 has its own product page.

Road Approval

This part is sold for track use: a German ABE is not documented for it.
