Sprint Filter PM158S F1-85 air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

When Honda built the CB1000F, it moved in the opposite direction to a racing filter. The engine is the Fireblade-derived four of the Hornet, but revised camshafts and intake tuning shift its delivery down the rev range, and Honda quotes 122 hp at 9,000 rpm — well below the Hornet. The P08 F1-85 is made for the opposite condition: an engine held wide open high in its range, where its 15,000 l/m²/sec of capacity is actually drawn on. On the F, that region is precisely where Honda chose to give power up.

Key Features

  • Racing weave in dry polyester threads from 22 µm, flowing 15,000 l/m²/sec
  • Retains 95.22 % of 100-micron particles, beside 93.13 % for the standard P08
  • Sprint Filter describes it as the most widely used air filter across MotoGP, Moto3, WorldSBK, Supersport and Superstock
  • Seats in the standard airbox with no modification and no remap
  • Never oiled; cleaned with compressed air and refitted
  • Built for the life of the motorcycle, backed by two years of warranty

And the GT?

The CB1000GT shares the platform and the element, and adds electronic suspension, an inertial measurement unit and the equipment of a sports tourer. It is built for long days at a steady pace, often with luggage, and a racing weave serves that use no better than it serves the F. Neither motorcycle becomes stronger for it — no element in an unmodified airbox achieves that — and neither spends meaningful time in the one state where the extra flow would register. The listing exists because the housing belongs to the Fireblade family, not because either machine asks for it.

The honest recommendation

For a CB1000F or CB1000GT on the road, buy the P08. It comes from the same dry, washable polyester family, it retains nearly as much at 100 microns, and this racing element costs a little over twice as much. The F1-85 makes sense for an owner who has already changed what the engine can use — exhaust, mapping, camshafts — and who will clean the element after hard use rather than at the next service. Anyone else is paying for capacity the motorcycle will never draw on.

Care and cleaning

The air line goes on the clean face of PM158S F1-85 and works outwards, so the collected load leaves the way it came in. Where dry cleaning is not enough, lukewarm water and a mild detergent finish the job, rinsed until clear. Only moving air at room temperature dries it; heat guns, radiators and open flames all damage polyester. Refit it dry, with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

For the Honda CB1000F and CB1000GT of 2025 and 2026. The code is shared with the CB1000 Hornet and Hornet SP of 2025 to 2026 and the CBR1000RR of 2017 to 2026 — three entries in all, listed in the Fitment tab.
