DescriptionThe whole story▼
With the Panigale V4 of 2018, Ducati put a four-cylinder engine into a series-production superbike for the first time, an engine whose layout comes straight out of the company's Grand Prix work. It revs, it is worked hard, and its owners tend to be attentive people. Attentive owners look at the oil between services rather than waiting for a workshop to do it, and that means opening the filler on the right sort of morning. Accossato's FP004 replaces the cap for that job in CNC-machined aluminium, thread M20x2.5, anodised in eight colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Ducati Panigale V4, 2018 and 2019
- Accossato names the Special version of the same years
- Thread size M20x2.5 as quoted by the manufacturer
- Aluminium, CNC-machined, anodised finish
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Fits other motorcycles using a filler of the same size
- FP007, TS003 and TS012 listed for this machine too
- No German ABE available to us; a track and competition part
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the FP004 from aluminium and then anodises it, a finish that colours the metal rather than coating it, which is why the ribs you grip do not wear pale over the years. The thread is M20x2.5 and it is the only dimension the maker gives out, since it is the one that governs whether a cap belongs on a given engine. Accossato states that the applications on its list are covered and that other motorcycles with the same filler size can use the cap as well. On a Panigale V4 the eight colours split neatly: titanium, black and silver disappear into the machine, gold and red pick up the bodywork, and blue, green or orange do the opposite on purpose.
Between Services, the Level Is Yours to Watch
An engine of this kind is checked, not assumed. Wait until the Panigale V4 is properly cold, which usually means leaving it overnight rather than trying to be clever with a short wait, and then take the reading in the position the owner's manual prescribes. Every engine has its own procedure and the handbook is the only authority worth following. Before the cap comes off, clean the area around the filler; anything sitting there has a single route once the opening is clear, and it is not a route you want. Cast an eye over the thread and the sealing face on cap and cover alike. If oil goes in, let it go in slowly and check between times instead of trusting one pour, using the grade named in the manual. The FP004 is then turned in by hand until it seats. Hand tight is the whole specification for a cap of this sort; force achieves nothing except a harder job next time. After the first ride, a look under the engine confirms that everything is dry and the work is done.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP004 for the Panigale V4 of 2018 and 2019 and names the Special version in the same entry. Fit follows the M20x2.5 thread, so the cap also suits other machines with that filler size; in our catalogue it appears for the Monster 821, the Hypermotard 950 and the Diavel. Where an engine cover has been replaced at some point, measure before you order. For this bike Accossato additionally offers the FP007 clutch cover and the TS003 and TS012 reservoir caps, which makes a single colour across the machine an easy thing to arrange.
Road Approval
No ABE and no test certificate for the FP004 are held in our files, and the cap is therefore listed for racing and competition only.
