DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid is a naked bike in which a petrol twin and an electric motor work together. However new the drive may be, the front brake is a familiar hydraulic disc brake, and the part that wears is the same as on any other motorcycle: the disc. Accossato's DK236 is a floating Elite front disc listed for the Z7 Hybrid of 2024. It measures 300 mm across and 142 mm at the inner diameter, it is 5 mm thick, as the original disc is, and it has a black carrier.

Key Features

  • Elite floating front disc for the Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid, 2024
  • 300 mm outer diameter, 142 mm inner diameter
  • 5 mm thick, equal to the original according to the supplier
  • Black carrier; ring mounted on rivets with the Accossato logo
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc

  • Accossato DK271 rear disc listed for the same year
  • No German ABE on file; track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato makes the DK236 in the Elite line, with the thickness of the original disc, 5 mm, an outer diameter of 300 mm and an inner diameter of 142 mm. The braking ring and the black carrier are joined by rivets that carry the Accossato logo. Accossato describes the thinking behind its discs as coming from Superbike and the Moto2 and Moto3 classes, with the design, the raw materials and the clearance between carrier and ring carefully worked out, and it notes that the low weight of its discs benefits steering.

Why a Floating Disc

A brake turns movement into heat, and the part that heats up is the braking ring, the band where the pads grip. As it warms, it expands. If ring and carrier were one rigid piece, the hot outer band would pull against the cooler centre, and the disc could distort. A floating disc avoids this by letting ring and carrier move slightly relative to each other. The rivets hold the ring in position and transmit the braking force, but they leave it free to grow outwards as it heats and to shrink back as it cools.

For the owner of a Z7 Hybrid this has two practical consequences. First, a slight rattle or a little play at the rivets when the disc is cold is part of the design, not a defect; what should not appear is a ring that moves noticeably, or cracks around the rivets. Second, the floating mount is there to help the disc stay true after repeated hard stops. Wear still happens, of course: measure the braking ring now and then and compare it with the minimum Accossato prints on the disc.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK236 for the Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid of 2024, and the DK271 fixed disc for the rear wheel of the same year. This listing is for one disc; check how many discs your Z7 Hybrid carries at the front before ordering. Tighten the disc bolts to Kawasaki's specification, keep the new disc free of grease and bed it in with fresh pads.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no type approval are documented for this disc. It is supplied for the racetrack.
