DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of Ducati Diavel owners spend much of their riding time in town: short hops across the city, a stop at every other light, slow manoeuvres into tight parking spaces. It is not the use the Diavel is famous for, yet that is where its front brakes do much of their daily work. For the Diavel of 2011 to 2018, Accossato lists the DKS053: a floating front disc on a black carrier, 5.5 mm thick and 320 mm across, that takes the place of an original disc.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Ducati Diavel 1200, 2011 to 2018
- Accossato also names the Cromo, Dark, Diesel and Strada
- 320 mm across, 5.5 mm thick, 72 mm centre bore
- Five 8.5 mm fixing holes, 90 mm hole-centre distance
- Floating friction ring on a black carrier
- Interchangeable with the Ducati original
- One disc per order; the front wheel takes two
- Track use only: no German ABE on record
Construction and Material Quality
Classic floating construction: a friction ring riveted to a black carrier. Five holes of 8.5 mm take the fixing bolts, and Accossato gives their hole-centre distance as 90 mm around a 72 mm bore. Do not be surprised if the ring shifts a little against the carrier when you handle the disc; that small freedom is intended. Accossato describes the DKS053 as interchangeable with original equipment and says its lessons come from the Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 paddocks, where both the choice of material and the clearance between ring and carrier are studied closely.
Short Hops and Red Lights
Town riding treats brakes in its own way. The stops come often but rarely hard, so the discs seldom get truly hot, and moisture, road grime and pad dust stay on the surface. After a night parked outside, a light film of rust often forms on the rings of a Diavel; the first few stops wipe it away and it does no harm. Deposits of pad material deserve more attention. They build up unevenly when hot pads rest on one spot of the disc at a long red light, and they can make the lever pulse slightly. A few firm stops on an empty road usually clear them; if they persist, measure the disc for uneven thickness.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list for the DKS053 on the Diavel 1200 covers 2011 to 2018 and names the Cromo, Dark, Diesel and Strada alongside the standard bike. Two discs are needed for the front wheel, and the price here is for one. The DK053, a millimetre thinner, is Accossato's other disc for this model, and the range also includes the EDF099 brake lever and the ESH011 clutch lever.
Road Approval
The DKS053 comes without a German ABE, and no type approval is documented, which limits it to closed circuits and competition.
Scope of Delivery
A single DKS053 for one side of the Diavel's front wheel, with its black carrier.
