DescriptionThe whole story▼
Hillclimbs and sprints are the most approachable form of timed competition there is, and the entry lists are full of ordinary machines. A 2017 Caballero 500 belongs in that company: light, simple, and quick enough on a narrow closed road to make the stopwatch interesting. For that bike Accossato offers the AGPA177 front pad in its EV2 racing material, article AGPA177EV2. The factory describes it plainly as a top racing compound, which tells you where it is meant to work and, by implication, where it is not.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Fantic Caballero 500 of 2017
- AGPA177EV2: the AGPA177 carrier pressed with the EV2 racing material
- The competition end of Accossato's range for this pad shape
- Chosen for events rather than for everyday journeys
- Covers only the original 2017 bike, not the later trims
- One box equals one caliper on the single front disc
- ST, EV1 and ZXC exist on the same plate for other uses
- No German ABE documented; sold for racing
Construction and Material Quality
The factory keeps its description to a single idea, and the idea is competition. A material developed for events is drawn around repeated heavy applications and around a rider who expects to prepare for them, rather than around the first junction on a cold morning. Stopping power that stays high while heat is held in check is the general promise Accossato attaches to its pad programme, and a closed course is where both halves of it become visible. The plate underneath is the everyday AGPA177 carrier, common to all four versions, so this remains a decision about a surface and not about fitment.
Timed Runs on a Closed Hill
A hillclimb run is short and the braking is concentrated. A Caballero 500 may make only two or three real applications in the whole ascent, but each of them arrives at the end of a full-throttle stretch with a stone wall or a hay bale for company, and there is no second attempt at getting it right. What follows is a slow trip back down in a queue of other competitors, and then perhaps twenty minutes before the next run. A racing material is designed for that pattern of intense work followed by a wait.
The practice run is where a rider learns what the brake is doing that day. A cold set behaves differently from a warm one, so bring the pads up gradually on the way to the start rather than discovering their character at the first corner. Check the disc for scoring between runs and keep an eye on the lever's resting position, since a lever that creeps closer to the bar as the day goes on is talking about the fluid rather than the pads. On the road home from the event, remember the first stop is a cold one.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's entry for the AGPA177 at the front of this Fantic names the 2017 Caballero 500 by itself. Later machines in the family, from the Scrambler to the Six Days, are covered by the AGPA184 from 2022, while the seasons in between appear nowhere in the list. Front and rear are catalogued separately here, the rear falling to the AGPP91 across both eras, and no disc is offered for the model. A box holds the pair for one caliper, which is what the front wheel of this bike needs.
Road Approval
There is no ABE and no German test documentation for the AGPA177EV2 in our records. The pads leave us as racing parts for closed courses.
Scope of Delivery
Two AGPA177 pads in the EV2 racing material, supplied in one box as the set for a single front caliper.
