Sprint Filter catalogues three media for this airbox, and the spacing between them is uneven in a way that decides how you should read the page. Two of them sit close together at the coarse end, 80 and 85 microns apart by five. The third is the T12 you are looking at, and it works at 7. No 14-micron option is listed for this housing, and no water-repellent P037 either. So the fine choice on an SRT 800 is not one notch finer than standard — it is the far end of the range reached in a single step, and it belongs to a surface, not to a state of mind.
Key Features
- Polyester special nonwoven, dry, filtering down to 7 microns
- Rated flow 560 l/m²/sec — roughly a ninth of the standard 80-micron panel
- Built for dust, sand and unsurfaced roads rather than for everyday tarmac
- Same frame and sealing face as the series element: no airbox work, no remap
- Approximately twice the filtering area of an ordinary performance element
- Regenerated with compressed air; two years of warranty from the purchase date
What seven microns costs
Exactly what the flow column says. The standard weave for this housing is rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec and this mat at 560, which is about nine times less air per square metre of material per second. That is not a defect in the T12 and it is not a hidden clause: retention and throughput are two ends of one seesaw, and buying more of the first always means accepting less of the second. Which is why the medium is not a rank. On a sealed road the SRT 800 meets air that the standard panel already handles comfortably, and the finer mat spends its advantage on particles that were never going to be there.
When the trade points the right way
Behind another vehicle on a gravel track, on a farm road in high summer, on long unsurfaced stretches where the dust is not an event but the background — that is where 7 microns earns the flow it gives up, and where the finer mat is protecting parts of the engine that cannot be cleaned afterwards. Be clear about what it is not doing while it does that: no slot-in element makes a standard SRT 800 noticeably stronger, and this one, of all of them, is the least likely to. What it offers is protection at a level the standard panel was not drawn for, in a part you wash rather than replace.
Care and cleaning
A fine mat holds its load closer to the surface, so start with air and be patient with it: the line goes on the clean face and the dirt comes back out the way it went in. Stubborn residue comes off under hand-warm water with a trace of mild detergent, then a long rinse. Drying is ambient only — heat is the one thing that will damage the material, so no hot-air gun, no radiator, no flame — and the PM281T12 returns to the box dry, untreated and unoiled. The maintenance sheet for it is in the Downloads tab on this page.
