Of all the modern Thruxtons, the R is the one that ends up on a circuit. It has the brakes and the suspension for it, and a track day is a very specific kind of use: the same engine load repeated for twenty minutes at a time, in air full of rubber dust and whatever the paddock is made of. What matters there is not a peak figure but repeatability — the third session behaving like the first. The Sprint Filter PM217S is built for that: dry polyester, cleaned with an air line between sessions, back to the restriction it started the day with.

Serviceable in the paddock, not in the workshop

Cleaning an oiled filter is a job for a garage: solvent, drying time, re-oiling, and a wait before the bike can be ridden again. None of that fits between two sessions. The P08 is serviced with compressed air blown from the clean side outwards, which takes a couple of minutes at any compressor line, and the element goes straight back in — dry, because it was never wet and never oiled.

What a filter can honestly claim

It will not turn a standard Thruxton into a faster motorcycle; drop-in elements do not do that, whatever the marketing says. What it does is hold intake restriction low and keep it there — an element that loads up over a season is quietly taking away a little more each time it is used, and the rider adapts without noticing. Cleaning the PM217S puts the intake side back to a known state, which for anyone lapping the same circuit twice a year is the more useful property.

Care and cleaning

Between sessions the air line does everything: clean side, blown outwards, so the load leaves the way it arrived. At home, water and a mild detergent take on what the compressor could not, rinsed until the water runs clear. The element then dries out fully in open air — no heat, no flame, no shortcuts — and it goes back into the airbox dry. The maintenance sheet is filed under the Downloads tab.
