The Travel is the V85 sold ready to go — panniers, a taller screen, heated grips, the things you would otherwise have bought in the first month. One less thing to source

Long-distance travel is mostly a logistics problem. A paper element is a part you either carry or find, and finding a specific Moto Guzzi filter a long way from a Moto Guzzi dealer is a lost afternoon. An oiled cotton filter is worse: you carry the element and the oil, and then you need somewhere clean and unhurried to re-oil it properly. This one needs neither — out, blown through from the clean side, back in dry.

Loaded is a different engine

Panniers, a screen and often a pillion raise the throttle opening needed for any given speed, and the engine's demand for air rises with it. That is precisely when a partly loaded filter starts to matter, because the pressure drop across a restricted element scales with flow. Twice the filtering surface keeps the element working at a smaller fraction of its capacity through exactly the kind of day this bike was bought for.

Care and cleaning
