An RR is assembled by substitution. Somebody walks down the specification of the standard machine and swaps items for lighter, more adjustable or more costly ones, and what gets left alone is as informative as what gets changed. Sprint Filter lists one element code against the 1290 Super Duke RR and against the R it descends from, which places the intake housing firmly among the things left alone. The box, its volume, its mouth and the panel sealing it were judged adequate for the sharpest version KTM built of this platform.
Key Features
- A single code covering the RR and the R: identical housing, identical sealing face
- Single-layer dry polyester weave, 80 microns, 5,050 l/m²/sec of measured flow
- No oil at any point in its life, so nothing can creep onto the intake sensors
- About twice the filtering area of a typical performance element
- Fits the series airbox in the position the factory panel occupied
- Washed and reused for as long as the bike runs; warranted two years from purchase
What the factory declined to change
Where a manufacturer genuinely reworked an area, the aftermarket ends up with two numbers, because two shapes need two parts. Here there is one number and one shape. Whatever KTM spent on the RR went into places the air never reaches, and the intake side carried over intact — same plastic, same aperture, same panel dimensions. Buying this element is therefore buying a change of material inside an unchanged box, a smaller and far more defensible proposition than the usual intake upgrade.
The size of the claim, stated exactly
No element dropped into a standard airbox makes a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and this one is no exception. What it offers instead is a starting restriction beneath what a disposable panel gives you and, because the polyester stays dry and is washed rather than replaced, a restriction that can be brought back to that starting point at every service instead of creeping upward between them.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does the routine work on a PM190S. Direct it at the side facing the engine and push the load back out through the face that caught it; that is a complete service in most years of ownership. Occasionally the weave takes on a film air will not shift, and then it is tepid water, a little mild detergent, and rinsing until the water leaves clear. Drying happens in circulating air over however long it takes — never with a heat gun, a radiator or a naked flame — and the element goes back dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is filed under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the KTM 1290 Super Duke RR of 2021 to 2023, seated in the unmodified original housing. The same code covers three motorcycles in total, the two 1290 Super Dukes and the later 1390, each with its own years shown in the Fitment tab. Because the RR shares its number with the volume model, the safe way to order is by element code and build year rather than by the name on the tank.
